Can Thai documents be legalized by Apostille?

Thailand is not a member of the Apostille Convention and does not issue Apostille stamps. Documents from Thailand must be legalized by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then attested by the embassy of the destination country in Bangkok.

What types of documents can be legalized in Thailand for use abroad?

Official documents that can be legalized in Thailand include birth, death, marriage certificates, divorce certificates, criminal record and police certificates, company registration and tax documents, court documents, university and academic diplomas, certificates signed by registered doctors etc., documents issued by government authorities. Other documents may require prior certification by a notary or other authority.

Official documents that can be legalized in Thailand include:

  • Thai birth certificates (Sutibat) and birth certification letters (Bai Rub Rong Kan Kerd)
  • Marriage certificates (Tabien Somros / Bai Samkhan Kan Somros)
  • Death certificates (Morana Bat)
  • Police Clearance Certificate
  • Court documents
  • University and academic diplomas
  • Divorce Certificates (Tabien Yah / Bai Samkhan Kan Yah)
  • Trade documents, including Certificates of Origin and Free Sale

Other documents may require prior certification by a Thai notary or other authority.

How can I obtain my Thai Criminal Record Certificate to use abroad?

Thai Police Clearance Certificates (Nang Sue Rab Rong Khwam Praprue), confirming an absence of a criminal record in Thailand, are available from the Royal Thai Police. Applications from outside Thailand should be submitted by post and must include a set of fingerprints taken by a local police service or at a Thai embassy or consulate.

How can I obtain a copy of a Thai birth, marriage or death certificate?

Official copies of Thai birth, death and marriage certificates can be obtained from the District Civil Registry Office (Amphoe). Birth Certificates issued after 1980 can also be obtained from the Bureau of Registration Administration, Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA) in Bangkok.

How can I legalize a Thai criminal record certificate to use abroad?

Thai Police Clearance Certificates required for submission to authorities abroad must be legalized at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then attested at the embassy of the recipient country in Bangkok. The original certificate is required.
