Certify Spanish Criminal Record Certificates (Certificado de Antecedentes Penales) for use abroad
Isarey provides specialist Apostille and attestation services in Spain. We arrange Apostille certification and embassy certification for Spanish Criminal Record Certificates for use in the United States and abroad.
We can also obtain criminal record certificates for clients outside Spain from the Ministry of Justice.
Spanish Criminal Record Certificates can be authenticated with an Apostille Stamp from the Ministry of Justice.
Certificates required for non-apostille countries are legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then attested by the embassy of the recipient country in Madrid.
We work with all major embassies in Madrid, including the embassies of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates to attest police background certificates and other Spanish documents.
Submission within the European Union
Spanish certificates of no criminal record do not require Apostilles when being submitted to other states of the European Union where the certificate is for a citizen of Spain and where the criminal record is clean. Non-Spanish nationals may still require an Apostille. For further information, see:
Regulation (EU) 2016/1191

Certified translations of Spanish Criminal Background Certificates
If a Spanish Criminal Record Certificate is required for submission to the authorities of a country which does not have Spanish as an official language, a certified translation may be required. Spain does not issue apostilles to authenticate translations done in Spain, however sworn translations required for submission to foreign embassies and consulates in Spain can be authenticated by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Translations may also be certified in the country of destination after the original certificate has been authenticated with a Spanish Apostille.
Isarey works with local notaries and sworn translators in a wide range of destination countries. We'll take care of the entire legalization and translation process, so that your certificates are correctly translated and ready to submit:
- GERMANY: translations into German must be certified by an officially authorized and appointed sworn translator.
- FRANCE: translations into French must be certified by a translator accredited by a French court of appeal (Cour d'appel)
- ITALY: translations must be authenticated by a Court Clerk or by a Notary Public in Italy
- PORTUGAL: translations into Portuguese can be certified in Portugal by a local notary
