Can Turkish documents be legalized by Apostille?

Yes - Turkey is a member of the Apostille Convention and Turkish documents can be legalized for use abroad with an Apostille Stamp when destined for other signatory countries without additional certification by the destination country.

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is not covered by the Apostille Convention. Documents issued in Northern Cyprus, including university diplomas and certificates, must be attested by the Turkish Consulate in North Nicosia before they can be authenticated by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs with an Apostille Stamp.

What types of documents can be legalized in Turkey for use abroad?

Official documents that can be legalized in Turkey with an Apostille stamp include:

  • Birth, death, marriage certificates

Documents required for submission to countries which have not acceded to the Apostille Convention will require additional attestation by the embassy of the recipient country in Ankara. Multilingual Certificates are issued on paper and digitally. Notarized true copies of paper certificates and marriage books can be made from a good quality scan for apostille authentication without sending the paper original to Turkey.

How can I obtain an apostille for my Turkish University Degree and Transcripts?

Apostilles to authenticate Turkish university degrees can be obtained on notarized copies from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Notarized copies can normally be made from a good quality scan of the diploma, so there is no need to send the original to Turkey.

Diplomas issued by universities based in Northern Cyprus must first be attested by the Turkish Consulate in North Nicosia to be valid for a Turkish Apostille.

The territory of Northern Cyprus is not covered by the Apostille Convention. However, documents issued in Northern Cyprus can be authenticated with an Apostille from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs after being attested by the Turkish embassy in North Nicosia.

How can I legalize a university degree issued in Northern Cyprus?

Diplomas and transcripts issued by universities registered in Turkey can be notarized directly and then legalized or apostilled by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Diplomas from other North Cyprus Universities need to be certified by the Turkish embassy in North Nicosia, before being legalized by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

North Cyprus university diplomas required for submission to the United Arab Emirates require final attestation by the UAE embassy in Ankara.
